Carrocerías Ayats wins the tender to manufacture 13 TITSA double-decker buses as part of the Tenerife Island Council’s public transport modernization plan

The company from Arbúcies, Girona, continues to expand its presence in the national market.

Carrocerías Ayats has been awarded the public tender launched by the Tenerife Island Council for the manufacture of 13 double-decker buses, each 15 meters long, for Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife S.A. (TITSA), the public company that manages regular road passenger transport on the island. The first vehicles are scheduled for delivery beginning in February 2026.

This new project forms part of the island’s plan to modernize and expand TITSA’s fleet, promoted by the Island Council to strengthen sustainable mobility, enhance service capacity, and offer users a more comfortable and efficient experience. TITSA currently operates more than 550 vehicles connecting all the island’s municipalities, transporting nearly 82 million passengers annually (2024).

The new Ayats HORIZON double-decker buses will accommodate up to 85 passengers and include two wheelchair spaces, significantly increasing the capacity per route without raising the number of vehicles in circulation. This contributes to reducing congestion and minimizing environmental impact. The configuration is especially suitable for high-demand routes connecting different areas of the island.

The vehicles will be designed for high technical performance, adapted to Tenerife’s terrain, and equipped with the latest technologies in accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency. They will incorporate state-of-the-art air conditioning systems, spaces for people with reduced mobility, and an interior design focused on passenger comfort.

Ferran Stoka, Commercial Director, stated, “Ayats is proud to contribute to the transformation of public transport in Tenerife with our double-decker vehicles. This award reinforces our leadership in this segment and consolidates our presence in the national market.”
